Kazakhstan, Russia to raise bilateral commodity turnover to $30bln

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin in the building of the Government in Astana, Kazinform News Agency reports.

“This is our first meeting in the current year. I consider it an excellent opportunity to sum up our joint work over the past year and to determine plan for a near outlook. Taking this opportunity, let me congratulate you on the 20th anniversary of signing the Treaty on the Kazakh-Russian State Border. Russia was and remains a key strategic partner and reliable friend for Kazakhstan,” said Olzhas Bektenov.

According to him, through to joint efforts of the two countries' presidents, the bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russian moved to a brand-new level.

“The state visit of the President of Russia to Kazakhstan in November 2024 reaffirmed allied character of the relations between our countries. An important task for both governments is to ensure full-fledged implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level, including raising the bilateral trade to $30 billion," Olzhas Bektenov said.

He highlighted that Kazakhstan attaches special attention to the development of interregional and near-border interaction.

“We positively evaluate the outcomes of the XX Jubilee Forum of Interregional Cooperation in Ufa. The next XXI Forum is set to be held in Uralsk, Kazakhstan. From year to year, this format has proven its efficiency and has served as a link in building a constructive dialogue between the regions of our countries. I am confident that the current year will be rich in joint events and mutual contacts at different levels,” the Kazakh Prime Minister added.

The Chairman of the Russian Government, Mikhail Mishustin, arrived in Astana for a working visit to participate in a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and Digital Almaty Forum.

Earlier, Kazakh, Russian foreign ministers talked over phone. The parties summed up the results of the bilateral interaction in 2024, focusing on a timely implementation of the instructions set by the two countries’ presidents, and discussed the schedule of upcoming events at the highest and high levels.
