The first day of the second international conference “The Right to Return: Advancing Justice for Azerbaijanis Expelled from Armenia” concluded in Baku.
Organized by the Western Azerbaijan Community, the event brought together over 100 delegates from 51 countries to address key issues related to the forced displacement of Azerbaijanis.
The program included panel discussions on topics such as “Historical and Legal Basis of the Right to Return for Azerbaijanis Forcibly Displaced from Armenia,” "Reconciliation and Peacebuilding Efforts in Conflict-Affected Regions," "The Role of International Advocacy and Diplomacy," "Justice, Human Security, and Property Restitution," and “Restoration and Protection of Cultural Heritage.”
Jakub Wojciech Korejba, a leading researcher from the Center for Eurasian Studies, emphasized the unacceptability of forced displacement and highlighted the solid foundation of the right to return in international law.
Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Western Azerbaijan Community, provided a historical overview of the expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia.
The conference will continue with further discussions on December 6.
