“Our expectations from the Azerbaijan-hosted COP29 are quite high. We have little time to address climate challenges, so urgent steps must be taken. Azerbaijan always pays great attention to this issue,” said Antonio Abreu, Director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences in the Natural Sciences Sector of UNESCO, and Secretary of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme, in an interview with AZERTAC at the conference dedicated to Azerbaijan's "Culture-Based Climate Action" (C4C) initiative.

Highlighting that preparations for COP29 are proceeding successfully and swiftly in Azerbaijan, Abreu emphasized, “I believe that COP29 will be a crucial event in making decisions that will mobilize not only politicians but also the global community to address the climate crisis.”

He commended and expressed gratitude to the government of Azerbaijan for hosting COP29, which aims to strengthen ambitions and enable actions against climate change. Abreu described the Baku-hosted COP29 conference as a key platform for exploring international climate policy, developing culture-based climate action, and promoting global cooperation to achieve a sustainable and resilient future.
