78th session of UN General Assembly High-Level Week to begin on September 18

The High-Level Week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly will begin on September 18, Report informs referring to the UN press service.

The High-Level Week will open with a two-day summit on the SDGs. The meeting is expected to end with the adoption of a political declaration.

“The SDG Summit in September must be a moment of unity to provide a renewed impetus and accelerated actions for reaching the SDGs,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said.

UNGA 78 President Dennis Francis, from Trinidad and Tobago, will gavel open on September 19 the annual General Debate, where global leaders will discuss speeding up progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the theme Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity.

The debate, which runs until September 26, provides an opportunity for delegations to present their positions and learn from the experiences of others in addressing the many interconnected global challenges that impede peace, security and sustainable development.

The Climate Action Summit will take place on September 20.

In addition, world leaders will discuss measures that will improve the health of people and the planet, including improving humanity's preparedness for future pandemics. The president of the UN General Assembly and the World Health Organization (WHO) invited heads of state and government to a thematic meeting.
