The leadership of Gilan province, together with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, is seeking to complete the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway by mobilizing all available resources, said Governor of Gilan province Hadi Haqshenas during the conference entitled "Caspian Sea: A Bridge of Friendship and Regional Development" in the city of Rasht.
According to him, the 162-kilometer Rasht-Astara railway will connect Gilan province with the port of Bandar Abbas, which will create conditions for Rasht to become an important transit hub. Goods from the Gulf countries will be transported via this route to Azerbaijan, Russia, European countries and vice versa, passing through the territory of Gilan.
The Qazvin-Rasht-Astara (Iran) - Astara (Azerbaijan) railway, one of the main segments of the North-South International Transport Corridor, provides transport links between the Gulf countries and Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. The governor noted that the new railway will provide a unified transport system between the Caspian Sea and the Gulf region.
