Iraq has expressed interest in enhancing energy cooperation with Azerbaijan and implementing joint projects in the oil sector, the press service of the Iraqi Prime Minister said following a meeting between Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Baghdad.
According to Report, the Azerbaijani delegation also included a vice president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), whose name was not disclosed.
The meeting focused on strengthening constructive cooperation between Iraq and Azerbaijan across various fields, particularly in the energy sector. Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of advancing several joint initiatives that would reinforce ties and serve the interests of both friendly countries, the statement said.
The prime minister highlighted the Iraqi government's desire to establish a partnership with Azerbaijan for the implementation of oil-related projects.
He also spoke about Iraq's investment opportunities in the energy sector, praised SOCAR's professionalism, and invited the company to participate in oil extraction projects. Additionally, he mentioned efforts to develop the country's gas industry and attract leading international companies to the sector.
Minister Bayramov, in turn, conveyed greetings from the President of Azerbaijan and extended an official invitation to Al-Sudani to visit Baku to deepen bilateral cooperation. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan's interest in expanding relations with Iraq across all sectors.
Al-Sudani accepted the invitation and promised to visit Azerbaijan at the earlier opportunity, the statement concluded.
