Azerbaijan has great potential as a transport hub, Heiko Schwarz, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Azerbaijan, told an event in Baku titled "Innovations in Railway Technologies in Azerbaijan: Partnerships and Opportunities for German Companies," Report informs.

Schwarz noted that recent geopolitical events have further boosted the importance of the Middle Corridor, and the development of this corridor can also contribute to the formation of green transport.

"We need peace. We hope that a peace agreement will be signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This means the creation of new business opportunities and will lead to the opening of transport corridors," said Schwarz.

Anar Hasanov, Chairman of the Board of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Foreign Trade (AHK Azerbaijan), emphasized that railways are both sustainable and environmentally friendly modes of transport, noting that Azerbaijan's strategic geographical position makes the country an important transport hub in the region.

"This year marks the 144th anniversary of Azerbaijan's railways, and currently more than 10,000 workers are employed in the railway sector," Hasanov said.
