Baku, Ashgabat negotiating to continue swap gas supplies

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are negotiating to continue swap gas supplies, according to the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Report informs referring to Interfax.

According to NIGC, gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan via Iran have been temporarily suspended.

“Baku and Ashgabat are negotiating on this issue,” Iranian media report citing NIGC.

Swap supplies will be resumed after reaching an agreement between the two countries.

It was earlier reported that Iran began transporting gas received from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan in January 2022, in accordance with a trilateral swap agreement signed on November 28, 2021 in Ashgabat. The agreement provided for supplies to Azerbaijan through Iran of up to 1.5-2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas per year.

At the beginning of June 2022, Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov and Minister of Oil of Iran Javad Owji signed a memorandum of understanding in Baku, according to which gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan through Iran were to double.
