Azercell, the leading mobile operator of Azerbaijan, has signed up as the Telecommunications Partner for COP29, highlighting the company’s commitment to digital inclusivity and prioritizing sustainability in all aspects of its operations.

Azercell is a key player in the telecommunications industry with a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. Since 2017, the company has been deploying green base stations throughout the country. In the Karabakh region alone, 35 base stations operate on solar energy, with renewable sources powering 60% of their operational time. In addition, the business proudly joined the UN Global Compact and the GSMA Climate Action Taskforce, further reinforcing Azercell’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals, and its role in encouraging other telecommunications stakeholders to accelerate their sustainability efforts.

Azercell’s mission, "Easing connectivity, Empowering lives," and its vision to lead the telecom sector in Azerbaijan are closely aligned with multiple SDGs, reflecting a firm commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. By advancing energy-efficient technologies, increasing renewable energy usage, and prioritizing digital inclusion, Azercell not only enhances connectivity but also actively minimizes its environmental impact. This year, Azercell issued its first ESG report, underscoring its transparency and progress in these areas.

In partnering with COP29 this year, Azercell recognizes that as the leading mobile operator in Azerbaijan, the company has a clear responsibility to foster sustainable development and contribute to the broader dialogue on how technology and digital transformation can support a low-carbon economy. The partnership will provide Azercell with the opportunity to showcase its commitment to sustainable practices and to collaborate with other tech-innovators.

Businesses partnering with COP29 will use the opportunity to engage with global climate policies, highlight their ongoing efforts on sustainability, and support the delivery of climate action transition in their key business areas. By partnering with COP29 in Baku, businesses can equally demonstrate the critical role they play in advancing green policies and supporting the global community in keeping the 1.5C target within reach.

The Green Zone at COP29 will feature a range of global businesses showcasing climate-friendly solutions, as a dedicated space for private sector organizations. Organizations will foster connections and advance climate action through a variety of programs, including presentations, workshops, and networking events. Participating businesses can host their own events using conference facilities with theatre-style seating and various meeting room formats for enhanced visibility, collaboration, and networking.

Commenting on the announcement of Azercell as X Partner, Chief Operating Officer for COP29 Azerbaijan Narmin Jarchalova said, “I am thrilled to welcome Azercell as the Telecommunications Partner at COP29.
