Kazakh PM Olzhas Bektenov inspects Astana Light Rail Transit System construction process

Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has inspected today the course of construction of Astana Light Rail Transit System, Kazinform News Agency learned from the Telegram channel of the Kazakh Government.

City Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek reported to Olzhas Bektenov on the project’s readiness level and prospects for the city’s transport system development.

The total length of the Light Rail Transit Line is expected to make 22.4 kilometers, with 18 stations to operate along it. 19 units of rolling stock with a capacity of 652 people is planned to be launched. The traffic interval will be 4-5 minutes. At the initial stage, passenger flow is expected at 25 thousand people per day, while the maximum passenger flow during the peak hours may reach 92 thousand people per day.

Leading Chinese companies such as China Construction Sixth Bureau, Yunnan Construction and Investment Holding Group Co., Longjian Road and Bridge Co., Tianjin Rail Transit Group Co., and CRRC Tangshan Co LTD are involved in the implementation of the project. CRSC International, CASCO, HUAWEI Smart Transport BU are engaged in setting up communication, alarming and automation systems, which play a key role in ensuring safe and efficient operation of the transport system. Upon completion of the project, driverless trains will be launched along the LRT.

According to Chairman of LLP City Transportation Systems Assylbek Duissebayev, completion of all constructions works and launch of LRT are scheduled for 2025 year end.

The Prime Minister stressed the need to implement the project at the highest level. The city akimat and central executive agencies were tasked to enhance control over the project.
