An Azerbaijani delegation led by Nigar Arpadarai, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29, joined the Climate Week, taking place in Panama city, the capital of Panama, on May 19-23.

“It's great to be in Panama City for the Climate Week.

Panama is one of those places on Earth where you truly realize how small and interconnected everything is. With the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Pacific on the other, the Panama Canal divides the two Americas while connecting two oceans.

At the Panama Climate Week, along with representatives of businesses, multilateral institutions, governments and civil society, we will explore ways to mobilize Climate Action and discuss how to accelerate bold and inclusive solutions,” Nigar Arpadarai noted.

Arpadarai emphasized that she was honored to join Ilya Espino de Marotta, Deputy CEO of the Panama Canal Authority, for a forward-looking conversation on accelerating the climate action.

“I'm inspired by her trailblazing leadership-as the only woman engineer in the Industrial Division shipyard,” the COP29 High-Level Champion added.

They highlighted how Latin American Impact Makers are delivering tangible climate solutions and how the Panama Canal is advancing its sustainability practices.

During the visit, Nigar Arpadarai also held meeting with Ana Toni, COP30 CEO.

“Great opportunity to strengthen the relationship, discuss future of global climate action and to reaffirm the support to the COP30 Presidency in the run up to Belém. It was inspiring to see the COP30 CEO’s commitment in shaping bold solutions to promote Climate Action,” Arpadarai added.
