Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iraq Nasir Mammadov met with President of the country Abdullatif Jamal Rashid.
The Iraqi President asked the ambassador to communicate his greetings to President Ilham Aliyev, and wished the people of Azerbaijan continued development and progress. He underscored the importance of taking advantage of the existing potential to bolster bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between the two countries across the economic, investment, tourism and transport domains.
The ambassador conveyed greetings of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid. He provided an insight into the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, describing the participation of the Iraqi President in COP29 as a clear manifestation of the support and contribution of his country to the cooperation on climate change.
Highlighting the relations between the two countries advancing on an increasing trend over the past two years, the diplomat noted that the official visit of President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid to Azerbaijan on November 20-21 last year opened a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations, giving a major impetus to developing the high-level reciprocal visits and relations.
Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid stressed the necessity to hold COP29 in light of the consequences of climate change, such as high temperatures, desertification and drought that affect most countries and its impact on the environment.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the prospects for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq across various domains spanning commercial and economic, investment, tourism, transport, energy and construction.
The ambassador briefed the Iraqi President on the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, and ongoing restoration and reconstruction works in the liberated areas.
