Azerbaijan is currently preparing an updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) document and a long-term Low-Carbon Development Strategy (LTS) in line with the Paris Agreement, Vugar Karimov, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, said at the event titled “The Role of Water Management Systems in Climate-Resilient Agriculture: COP29 Roundtable Discussions,” Report informs.

Karimov emphasized the need to educate and adapt agricultural producers to current climate realities to combat and mitigate the effects of climate change in agriculture. He stated that the negative impacts of climate change can only be addressed through strategies developed within the framework of adaptation and mitigation.

The deputy minister noted that solving the problem of climate change requires the implementation of a wide-ranging and long-term set of measures.

“As a contribution to global initiatives to reduce the impact of climate change under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Azerbaijan has set a conditional target of reducing the net share of greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40% by 2050. In a significant move, Azerbaijan has also joined the Global Methane Pledge initiative this year, which envisages commitments to reduce global methane emissions,” he said.
