Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing to participate in the ceremony of pouring the first concrete at the 4th power unit of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant in Egypt, his spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing, Report informs referring to Interfax.

The ceremony is scheduled for January 23.

“It is really being prepared, this is a very important ceremony. Our cooperation with Egyptian partners continues in a variety of areas - this is our very important partner - including in this high-tech area, so important for the further development of Egypt,” he noted.

The intergovernmental agreement on the construction of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant, El Dabaa, was concluded in November 2015, and the contract for engineering, procurement and construction was concluded at the end of 2016. The plant design involves four power units of 1200 MW each with VVER-1200 type reactors.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2028-2029.
