The candidate for mayor of Istanbul from Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will be announced on January 15, the Cumhuriyet newspaper said, Report informs via TASS.
According to the paper, Erdogan chose January 15 because on this day in 1994, he was elected mayor of Türkiye’s largest city.
The ruling Turkish party will begin announcing candidates for mayors of other cities on December 27.
