A fishing boat carrying 347 migrants and refugees landed on Lampedusa on Wednesday night after being rescued and accompanied to port by coast guard and finance police patrol boats, according to ANSA.

The 25-metre vessel carrying people from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt and Syria had departed from Libya.

The group said they had paid between 4,000 euro and 8,000 euro for the crossing.

The new arrivals took to 356 the number of migrants and refugees currently in the first-line reception 'hotspot', after the facility had been almost empty for several days following a let-up in sea arrivals due to bad weather.
