Sabina Aliyeva, the human rights commissioner (ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Ralf Horlemann, ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Azerbaijan.

The ombudsman provided the ambassador with information about the actions taken to safeguard freedoms and human rights in Azerbaijan.

Aliyeva emphasized the importance of learning from positive experiences in the field of human rights and highlighted the effective cooperation established with ombudsmen and national human rights institutions in other countries, as well as with regional and international associations.

The Ombudsman also discussed recent amendments to the Constitutional Law "On the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan," which expanded her mandate, particularly in areas such as protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, children's rights, and preventing discrimination.

Aliyeva also mentioned that Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) this year and that preparations for the event are underway.
