Azerbaijan is set to establish an International Centre of Excellence and Training for Mine Action, Acting UNDP Resident Representative in Azerbaijan Alessandra Roccasalvo said during a press briefing in Nakhchivan, Report informs.

Roccasalvo emphasized the importance of fundamental issues such as access to clean water, stating, "These are the factors that form the basis of human rights."

The official shared her observations on Azerbaijan's diverse climate, noting, "The climate of Baku is completely different from Nakhchivan. I've been to Karabakh, and Lankaran, and seen most of Azerbaijan's districts. Though Nakhchivan is hot, it lacks the humidity of Baku."

She also praised Duzdagh, a salt cave known for its therapeutic properties.

The UNDP representative disclosed some impressive statistics regarding their activities in Azerbaijan:

“Last year, the value of work done was $15 million. This year, our scope is expanding even further, and I’m confident this amount will increase. Our efforts include socially oriented areas, and we provide support to ANAMA in landmine clearance.”

Roccasalvo highlighted the upcoming initiatives: "A special center of excellence for mine clearance will be opened. Additionally, training centers will be established to share knowledge and skills for expanding employment opportunities."

The UNDP's portfolio in Azerbaijan also covers the rule of law, rights, and freedoms. "We work with 135 countries in total," Roccasalvo added, emphasizing that the climate change event organized in Nakhchivan is part of their broader mission to ensure the rule of law and protect human rights and freedoms.
