AZERTAC’s photo correspondent Ilgar Jafarov most award-winning photographer in international competitions

The Azerbaijan Photographers Union has revealed the list of awards and honours received by the local photographers abroad.

According to the Union, Azerbaijani photographers have been honoured with 830 awards in international competitions since 2015.

The number of awards received in 2023 shoot up to 268. The medals won by the photographs are mainly gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as honourable mentions, diplomas and certificates.

Honored Cultural Worker, AZERTAC photo correspondent Ilgar Jafarov is the most award-winning photographer throughout the international photo contests, taking home 254 awards.

Valeriy Khlizov (102), Nadezhda Javadova (95), Aleksandr Firstov (73), Karim Abbasov (52), Azim Mehdiyev (46), and Rashad Mehdiyev (43) are also among the photographers who won numerous international awards.

Professional photographers also earn points by participating in such competitions and exhibitions. Thanks to these scores, they can claim international titles in the field of photography. Photographers who meet all the requirements and criteria are awarded with lifetime honors. Currently, there are more than 10 international photographers operating in Azerbaijan, who also get the opportunity to act as judges in foreign photo contests.

The role of Gilavar Photo Club - Azerbaijan’s leading photo organization, in developing the art of photography in the country is undeniable. For more than six years, the club has been promoting photography art in the country and beyond its borders. The club's participants are actively engaged in the organization of local and international photo contests.
