Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament informs Belgian Senate President about Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process

Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with President of the Senate of the Federal Assembly of the Kingdom of Belgium Vincent Blondel on the margins of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in the city of Istanbul, Türkiye.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the prospects for developing inter-parliamentary ties between the two countries. The sides acknowledged that parliaments are entities contributing to dialogue and mutual understanding. In this regard, they underscored the important role of mutual contacts in discussing points of interest. The special role of the IPU in this context was duly emphasized.

It was mentioned that the IPU invariably serves dialogue and common endeavors.

The parties haled the fact that contacts between parliaments help parties understand each other better and to discuss important subjects.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova pointed out great potential for advancing relations between Azerbaijan and Belgium across various areas, including within the parliamentary one.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis informed the Belgian Senate President about the developments unfolding in the region, as well as of the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process. Sahiba Gafarova said that a one-sided, prejudiced approach to issues hampered the normalization process.

Noting that the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Armenia, too, was aimed to enhance mutual trust, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasized that it is such goals precisely that parliamentary diplomacy should ever serve.
