Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Cambodia hold fourth round of political consultations

The fourth round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Cambodia took place in Cambodia.

The meeting was co-chaired by Elnur Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, and Khuon Phon Rattanak, Under Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia.

The discussions focused on the current state of bilateral relations, as well as prospects for expanding cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian, and other areas.

Deputy Minister Mammadov briefed the Cambodian side on the situation in the region, ongoing demining operations, and reconstruction and restoration efforts in the liberated territories.

The parties also discussed opportunities for collaboration within international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

During his visit, Elnur Mammadov met with Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia. Both sides emphasized the significant tourism potential of the two countries and the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in this area. A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in tourism between the governments of Azerbaijan and Cambodia was signed.

The Azerbaijani delegation also held meetings with Vong Sauth, Vice President of the National Assembly of Cambodia; Khy Sovanratana, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; and Buth Rothna, Executive Director of the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Centre (ARMAC).

Deputy Minister Mammadov met with Cambodians who had studied in Baku during the 1980s and 1990s, and highlighted Cambodia’s support for establishing the Azerbaijan-Cambodia Friendship Association.

The visit concluded with Mammadov’s interview with prominent Cambodian media outlets, where he discussed the current state and future development of bilateral relations.
