The twelfth meeting of States parties to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (ICRMW) was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Tofig Musayev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the ICRMW by the States parties to the Convention.
As part of the meeting, elections were held to fill seven seats that will become vacant after December 31, 2025, for membership in the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (CMW) for the 2026–2029 term.
In addition to the Republic of Azerbaijan’s candidate, Azad Taghi-zade, candidates from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ecuador, Benin, Niger, Madagascar, and Senegal also competed in the elections.
According to the results, Azad Taghi-zade received votes from 55 out of 57 countries, achieving the highest result and securing re-election as a member of the Committee for the 2026–2029 term.
The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (CMW) is composed of 14 independent experts responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention by its State parties.
