Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys made a phone call to his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov.
The Lithuanian Minister offered his condolences regarding the tragic crash of the "Azerbaijan Airlines" passenger plane near the city of Aktau en route the Baku-Grozny flight, and wished God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives in this accident and recovery to the injured.
Expressing his regret that the first phone call was made on such a sad day, Minister Budrys said that Lithuania is always ready to provide necessary support towards rehabilitation of the injured and investigation of the causes of the tragic incident.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed his gratitude for the condolences and the solidarity shown. Noting that the investigation of the causes of the plane crash is under the direct supervision of the country's leadership, FM Bayramov underlined that a state commission has been established in this regard. He also briefed the Lithuanian minister on the commission’s activities.
During the telephone conversation, the ministers also exchanged views on issues of regional and international security, as well as bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Noting that next year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the sides highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation.
