Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting discussed the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the OIC, as well as partnership opportunities regarding Azerbaijan's role in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan has always prioritized the development of relations with brotherly and friendly countries and expressed readiness to further expand cooperation within the OIC framework. He noted the contributions of Azerbaijan as an active member of the OIC to enhance the organization's activities.
He provided detailed insights into the preparations, negotiations, priorities, and initiatives associated with Azerbaijan's presidency of COP29, highlighting a focus on attracting financial resources for climate change mitigation efforts. Minister Bayramov also noted Azerbaijan’s readiness for cooperation within COP29, considering the significance of addressing climate change threats for OIC countries. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other mutually relevant issues.
