The international conference dealing with the Illegal French Occupation of Mayotte Island has kicked off in Baku.
One of the 16 international events organized by the Baku Initiative Group over the past year, the Conference brought together representatives from the Union of Comoros. This group is actively fighting against French occupation and advocating for the reintegration of Mayotte into the Union of Comoros. The event included public and political figures, diplomats, members of the scientific community, human rights activists, and heads of non-governmental organizations.
The Conference will address France's colonial history in the Comoros, the occupation of Mayotte by France and the damage inflicted on the Comorian people. They will also examine France’s geopolitical and economic interests in the region, as well as the positions of the Comoros Union and international organizations regarding Mayotte.
