From November 2020 to June 2021, Armenia consistently denied the existence of landmine maps. Official Yerevan only partially presented the maps in June 2021 through intermediaries, under pressure from international mediators,” Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told journalists.
The minister underlined that the government of Azerbaijan regularly raises the issue of mine problems across various platforms and turns it into a topic of discussion.
“We continue to expose Armenia on all platforms regarding mine problems. According to ANAMA, Armenia, eager to create a new "contact line" spanning 480 km in length, 2 km in depth, and covering a total area of 960 sq.km, has extensively mined the area over the past three years. This zone has been seeded with 500,000 mines. It is hard to believe that Armenia is unaware of this, given that they claim the maps don't exist,” concluded the minister.
