The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a statement in response to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic George Gerapetritis.
"In his statement made in Yerevan, the Greek Foreign Minister noted that his country would launch “a campaign within the framework of the European Union and UNESCO to preserve Christian monuments in Karabakh and determine the damage caused to them.”
We consider the statement of the Greek Foreign Minister a flagrant disregard of the official Athens for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and blatant interference in the country’s domestic affairs.
Greece should not view issues through the prism of the ethnic-religious fanaticism, nor should it take provocative steps against Azerbaijan. It must demand from Armenia not to destroy and distort the cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people, and allow a UNESCO fact-finding mission to visit the territory,” the community said.
