Azerbaijan, Japan discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to the country Katsuya Watanabe.

 

Ambassador Katsuya Watanabe presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Bayramov.

 

The meeting saw discussions on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as the situation in the region.

 

The two pointed out the significance of the historical ties of friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Japan in many areas, as well as the development of bilateral relations within the framework of mutual interest. They stressed the importance of enhancing high-level reciprocal visits, political consultations, and the activity of the joint economic commission in this regard.

 

They also underscored the vast opportunities for bilateral cooperation in such spheres as “green energy”, transport, logistics, high technologies, education and other areas.

 

The Azerbaijani FM informed the Japanese ambassador about the history of the former conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, as well as the problem of the Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

 

FM Bayramov highlighted the reasons for the start of the 44-day Patriotic War and the anti-terrorist measures that lasted less than 24 hours resulting in Azerbaijan’s ensuring its territorial integrity and sovereignty. The minister described Azerbaijan as an initiator of the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, saying that the country is interested in ensuring peace and stability in the region.

 

The minister wished ambassador success in his future endeavors.

 

During the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
