The main goal of the people of New Caledonia is to get rid of French domination and gain social and political independence, president of the Association of Artists of Thio (New Caledonia), Alex Loic Oue Toura, said at the international conference on “Decolonization Dialogues: Legacy, Challenges, and Progress” taking place in Baku, Report informs.
“Our goal is to create a special network where young and old generations can speak openly about social issues. This is necessary to achieve a prosperous, secure future for New Caledonia,” he noted.
According to the head of the Association, social changes have already begun to occur in New Caledonia as part of the process of combating decolonization.
“Our youth are increasingly passionate about achieving social and economic freedom. In addition, we are thinking about how to solve our mental problems, which are the consequences of France’s colonial policies,” he said.
Toura also thanked the Baku Initiative Group for the efforts and organization of the platform within which such issues can be discussed.
