Kyrgyz Silunews.kg portal has published an interview with Azerbaijani Ambassador to the country Latif Gandilov, who highlighted Azerbaijan's participation in the Belt and Road project.

The article quoted the Azerbaijani ambassador as saying: “Chinese Belt and Road initiative fully meets the interests of Azerbaijan, and thus, the country fully supports the project.

Speaking about the initiative, the diplomat described it as a co-production, co-development and co-use of the relevant product, adding that the project envisages the integration of all the countries located along that road.

Ambassador Latif Gandilov also underlined National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s efforts towards restoring and developing the historic Great Silk Road in 1998.

“One of the reasons why Azerbaijan supports the project is the fact that a part of this road passes through Azerbaijan. I can even say not partially, but completely. May be in the future there will be an opportunity to implement the second route through the Zangezur corridor, which Azerbaijan has been talking about for several years. The opening of the Zangezur corridor will ensure the land crossing of the Middle Corridor connecting Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan through the Caspian Sea, and will significantly reduce the distance between them. Thus, Azerbaijan will have another route to Europe, Africa and the Middle East," the Azerbaijani diplomat added.
