Azerbaijani, Iranian FMs discuss current situation in the region

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on the sidelines of an open-ended emergency extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the ministerial level on the latest developments in the Israel-Palestine conflict zone in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

 

During the meeting, the two discussed issues on the cooperation agenda between the two countries, multilateral regional cooperation, and the current situation in the region.

 

The sides noted the significance of increasing bilateral contacts between the two countries and the meetings held within the bilateral economic commission, describing these contacts as important for solving some issues between the two countries.

 

FM Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted the current situation in the region during the post-conflict period, as well as the prospects of the agenda of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and works carried out in the region after the anti-terrorist measures in the Karabakh region.

 

FM Bayramov also stressed the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the establishment of new communication links between the East Zangazur economic region of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the territory of Iran.

 

The FM pointed out that Azerbaijan is determined to establish peace and security in the region and promote regional cooperation.

 

During the meeting, the FMs also discussed other regional issues.
