Elnur Mammadov: UN mission confirmed that there were no cases of ill-treatment of Karabakh's Armenian population

Reports from the first visit of the UN mission to Karabakh on September 29, at the invitation of Azerbaijan, confirmed that not a single case of mistreatment of the Armenian population of Karabakh was recorded, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov stated during the hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague on the case regarding the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, Report informs.

 

This was the first UN mission in Karabakh in the last 30 years, Elnur Mammadov said, adding that Azerbaijan and the UN repeatedly tried to gain access to these territories during the years of occupation to document the ethnic cleansing of Azerbaijanis in the early 90s, but Armenia repeatedly refused the entry of the UN or any other country’s mission.

 

According to Mammadov, during the first visit, UN representatives met and talked with the local population, and got acquainted with humanitarian aid and medical services.

 

The deputy minister stressed that they recorded no damage to civil and public infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and housing stock, as well as cultural and religious buildings.

 

Elnur Mammadov added that the UN mission visited Karabakh for the second time on October 9-10 and at the moment, Azerbaijan is awaiting the mission's reports.
