Armenia must be held internationally accountable for serious violations of international human rights law against Azerbaijani citizens, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at the 54th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, XQ informs.

According to him, from 1987 to 1991, Armenia forcibly expelled more than 200,000 Azerbaijanis from their homes, which is a flagrant violation of international law.

All Azerbaijani settlements were renamed, and Azerbaijan's historical and cultural heritage was purposefully destroyed, Bayramov added.

The minister stressed that Azerbaijan expects that, with the help of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and other UN instruments, the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from their homes will be taken into account.

Bayramov noted that this will be a significant effort to achieve justice for the victims of such an attack and will be crucial for genuine reconciliation.
