Initiated and organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Cairo, a seminar titled “Egyptian Literature in the Mirror of Azerbaijani Oriental Studies” was held as part of the 57th Cairo International Book Fair.

The event featured discussions on the literary translation into Arabic of the book “Dramaturgy of Ahmed Shawqi” by Azerbaijani researcher Nigar Bakikhanova.

The seminar was attended by Emin Yusifzade, Second Secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Egypt; Seymur Nasirov, Professor at Cairo University and Head of the Azerbaijani community; Egyptian researcher Ahmad Abdoh Tarabik; and Professor Mohammad Nasruddin Jabali, the translator of the book into Arabic.

In his remarks, Seymur Nasirov emphasized that interest in the Arabic language and Oriental studies has been preserved within Azerbaijani society despite the strict ideological restrictions imposed during the Soviet era. He noted that the Arabic language is closely connected with Islamic culture and represents an important element of cultural identity.

Other speakers highlighted the significance of the book, stressing that Nigar Bakikhanova’s research is not only an analysis of Ahmed Shawqi’s works, but also a presentation of the Azerbaijani scholarly perspective on Arab literature.

It was noted that the Azerbaijani School of Oriental Studies has played a significant role in advancing research on history, literature, philosophy, geography, and intercultural relations in the Caucasus.

In conclusion, the book was presented to readers in Arabic at the initiative of the Azerbaijani Embassy.
