Azerbaijan joins international symposium in Istanbul

Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration, participated in International Symposium “One Hundred Years of National Palaces” held in Istanbul.

The symposium, which is of great importance in terms of discussing international experience in the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, restoration, and museumization of monuments, brought together heads of palace museums and historical and cultural reserves from various countries, as well as scholars.

They made presentations on the management, restoration, sustainable development of heritage monuments, museology, and the protection of museum collections.

During one of the sessions of the event, Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration, delivered a presentation titled “From preservation to presentation: Turning the monuments of the Old City into museums”. He also provided insight into the efforts to protect, restore, and museumize monuments, as well as the experiences gained in this field.

During the visit, Rufat Mahmud met with Mustafa Tural, Director of the Istanbul Historical Areas Site Management Directorate, which is responsible for the management of four historical monuments included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in Istanbul.

The sides discussed the exchange of experience in the field of reserve management and prospects for future joint cooperation.
