Baku hosts training seminar of intergovernmental panel on climate change

A training seminar on IPCC inventory program and its integration with the UNFCCC reporting mechanism has got under way as part of the climate transparency initiative under Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency. The seminar is co-organized by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Environment Program (UNEP), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The aim of the event is to increase the ability and skills of the local and foreign experts regarding the implementation of reporting mechanism submitted by the UNFCCC for the preparation of Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR) and the new IPCC software for calculating greenhouse gas emissions.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Taghiyeva underscored the significance of ensuring transparency in climate action and increasing skills in greenhouse gas inventory to combat climate change.

The three-day seminar will bring together representatives of the relevant state institutions of Azerbaijan and experts from more than 100 countries.
