Azerbaijani, Montenegrin Ombudspersons explore cooperation
Sabina Aliyeva, Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman), met with her Montenegrin counterpart Siniša Bjeković.
During the meeting, Aliyeva briefed her counterpart on her activities in protecting human rights and freedoms.
The Azerbaijani Ombudsman highlighted that her mandate extends to the fields of anti-discrimination, ensuring equality, and protection of the rights of children and migrants, as well as persons with disabilities and other groups, and that she is empowered to act as an independent monitoring mechanism in these areas.
Sabina Aliyeva also informed the Montenegrin delegation members about the work of the independent monitoring groups created to ensure equality and prevent discrimination, as well as best practices in these areas.
Moreover, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman once again expressed her gratitude to her Montenegrin counterpart for the prompt support provided in protecting the rights of Azerbaijani nationals regarding the events that occurred in Montenegro last year.
Bjeković stressed the great potential for fostering cooperation between the two ombudsman institutions.
The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual concern and the enhancement of collaboration.
