Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan’s Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), met with Ivana Živković, UN Assistant Secretary-General, the UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Europe and CIS.
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of mutual interest and the ANAMA-UNDP International Centre of Excellence and Training for Mine Action, which is planned to be established in the territory Azerbaijan.
Vugar Suleymanov briefed the UN Assistant Secretary-General about the threats posed by mines to human life and health, and the environment, as well as the measures taken to address the problem.
Emphasizing that Azerbaijan excellently organized the COP29 conference, UN Assistant Secretary-General Ivana Živković, who is visiting Azerbaijan to attend COP29, mentioned that mine action was one of UNDP’s priority areas in Azerbaijan.
They also highlighted the profound and long-term cooperation between UNDP and ANAMA, underscoring the significance of maintaining this valuable partnership to bolster and expand humanitarian mine clearance efforts.
