Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister holds meetings within COP29

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Pakistani Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik and CESI SpA's CEO Nicola Melchiotti within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Baku, Report informs, referring to Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry.

During the meeting with Musadik Malik, the parties expressed satisfaction with the high-level relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

In particular, they highlighted the important role of the state visit of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Pakistan in July 2024 in raising bilateral relations to a new stage and determining various spheres of cooperation in the energy sector.

Additionally, the sides evaluated cooperation opportunities between the Pakistan State Oil Company (PSO) and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) on oil products trade and oil-gas infrastructure projects. Acceleration of bilateral consultations was noted. Views were exchanged on cooperation in renewable energy as well. Pakistan was invited to join COP29's energy initiatives.

During the meeting with Nicola Melchiotti, the current status of the feasibility study for the Caspian - Black Sea - European Green Energy Corridor project and the preliminary results of the research were evaluated.

Discussions were also conducted regarding the activities of CESI SpA, which was involved as a consulting company for the feasibility study of the Green Energy Development and Transmission Project between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

They also discussed Bulgaria joining the project, the transportation of renewable energy from Central Asian countries through this corridor, infrastructure financing, and the participation of European companies.
