Deputy minister: Mine threat in Karabakh slows down process of economic revival

The presence of mines in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan poses a threat to people's lives and slows down the process of economic revival, Deputy Economy Minister Sahib Mammadov said at the meeting of the Government-UN Joint Steering Committee on the implementation of the Framework Document on Sustainable Development Cooperation between the UN-Azerbaijan for 2021-2025 held in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that the country's president initiated the addition of demining as the 18th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to the 2030 Agenda of the UN: "COP29 can also serve as an important platform for promoting the 18th National SDG project put forward by Azerbaijan in the international community. Projects implemented jointly with the UN will contribute to the implementation of our country's priorities related to the fight against climate change, adaptation, and successful holding of COP29 in our country and other areas."

The Deputy Minister also said that the global development priorities put forward by the UN and other international organizations were taken into account during the implementation of the I State Program on the reintegration of lands freed from occupation and the Great Return: "The application of smart city, smart village and green energy zone concepts provides comfortable and modern living conditions in the region. Steps have been taken to establish foreign-invested enterprises in the field of greening and decarbonization in these areas. Through COP29, we can inform interested parties more broadly about the implementation of projects based on the concepts of carbon neutrality in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur economic regions."
