A EU Green Deal and Sustainability Seminar dedicated to the Green World Solidarity Year was held in Baku under the organization of TÜV Austria Azerbaijan LLC, Report informs.

The seminar was presented by Burcu Celebi, GPM of TÜV AUSTRIA Group, Lead Auditor for ISO Management Systems.

Heads and representatives of companies with which TÜV Austria Azerbaijan cooperates participated in the seminar as guests.

The participants were given detailed information about ISO 14064 – organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, ISO 14067 – Greenhouse Gas Emissions – Carbon Footprint of Product, Water Footprint, and other standards at the seminar.

The director of TÜV Austria Azerbaijan, Ulkar Guliyeva, made an opening speech and said that the seminar will discuss Water Footprint, Carbon Footprint, and mechanisms for calculating greenhouse gas emissions.

At the seminar, Burcu Celebi noted that, according to the new carbon emissions of the European Union, all companies will report on their Carbon Footprint within the next 25 years. This includes the carbon emissions released during the fuel consumption of vehicles, in textiles, electricity production, and other fields.

She emphasized that the purpose of conducting seminars is to create conditions for companies operating in these sectors to use effective means to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Celebi told Report that companies involved in exports, especially aluminum, steel plants, and the cement industry, will be impacted by this issue: "Companies will now calculate carbon emissions in production. With this, they will not suffer from taxes under the EU's Carbon Border Tax, which will start in 2026. That's why we hold seminars on what kind of reporting to do so that companies don't suffer losses in the supply chain."

She noted that the aluminum export and steelmaking industry in Azerbaijan is also responsible in this matter: "As TÜV Austria Azerbaijan, we are accredited. We will check the reports of the companies, which must be approved by a third company. We have implemented more than 200 projects in Türkiye. Next month, work in this direction will begin in Azerbaijan. These reports should be made in order for companies not to suffer losses and for the health of the youth."
