Baku Engineering University (BEU) and the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) of China have signed an agreement to implement a dual degree program (DDP) at the undergraduate level for three additional majors: Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Business Administration.

With this agreement, the total number of majors under the DDP between the universities has reached six.

According to the agreement, students who successfully complete the first and second years in the mentioned majors and pass the relevant procedures will continue their education in the third and fourth years at BUCT in corresponding majors and ultimately receive two diplomas.

BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev described the signing of the new agreement as a significant event and recalled that, since last year, the DDP in Chemistry, Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering majors has been successfully implemented between the two universities. He expressed gratitude to BUCT's leadership and academic staff for the conditions created for BEU students currently studying in Beijing within this framework. Emphasizing that the implementation of the DDP for new majors confirms the success of cooperation between the universities and further strengthens relations, the rector highlighted the importance of the signed agreement in terms of joint projects and expanding opportunities for young people. He also characterized this successful cooperation as a clear example of the rapidly developing relations between Azerbaijan and China in recent years.

Yagub Piriyev stated that the Joint Declaration signed during President Ilham Aliyev's state visit to China last year strengthened the strategic partnership between the two countries and identified the expansion of cooperation in education, science, and innovation as a priority. The rector particularly emphasized President Ilham Aliyev's reference to the Azerbaijan-China strategic partnership as one of the important events of last year in his recent interview with local television channels. Noting that the high-level relations between the leaders of the two countries, Ilham Aliyev and Xi Jinping, based on mutual respect and trust, have created a solid foundation for partnership between higher education institutions, the rector added that the abolition of the visa regime has opened new opportunities for academic mobility and relations among young people.

For his part, BUCT Rector Tan Tianwei described the newly signed agreement as an important indicator of expanding cooperation between the two universities into a multifaceted cluster including other academic directions. Highlighting the positive impact of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and China on strengthening ties in the field of education, the rector stated that the DDP is of great importance in terms of providing students with global knowledge and experience, and that BEU students currently studying in China are showing excellent results. He also expressed confidence that cooperation will be strengthened through joint scientific research and innovative projects in the future, and that they will undertake larger projects with BEU.

During the signing ceremony, the sides expressed confidence that the program, to be implemented for a total of six majors and based on the 2+2 model, would elevate relations between the universities to a new qualitative stage and contribute to the expansion of joint scientific research, innovative initiatives, and academic exchange.

This is the first DDP implemented at the undergraduate level between Azerbaijani and Chinese universities.
