The city of Dakhla, located in the Moroccan Sahara region in the south, is considered a diplomatic hub and a gateway to Africa thanks to its future port (the Atlantic Port of Dakhla), which will be one of the largest ports in the region, as it now includes 17 consulates alone, and the willingness of other countries to announce the same project and join the list of countries that have diplomatic representation in the same region, the last of them being the State of Chad, which interacted with the Atlantic Initiative launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the end of 2023, which aims to grant the four landlocked countries of the Sahel (Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso and Chad) access to the Atlantic Ocean.

For reference, the diplomatic quarter of the city of Dakhla, described as the pearl of the Atlantic Ocean, has consular representations for French-speaking African countries, such as Senegal, in addition to English-speaking, Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking countries such as Gambia, in addition to a representation linked to the Organization of Caribbean States.

The city of Laayoune is home to 12 consulates, while information indicates that in the near future, new consulates will be opened in the region.
