Iran is preparing a response to an Israeli missile attack on the Islamic Republic's consulate in Syria, but wants to avoid further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, Report informs via The Washington Post.

According to the publication’s interlocutors, despite Iran’s "harsh rhetoric," the country will "carefully consider" its response to the attack. American, Israeli and Western officials believe that the attack on the Damascus consulate, although "provocative," did not lead to mass casualties.

In turn, one of the senior Israeli security officials noted that Israel does not expect an "overreaction" from Iran, since this was not the first attack that the Jewish state carried out in Syria against Iran and rebel forces associated with it.

According to the unnamed officials, Iran could attack Israeli strategic targets with drones or missiles in a manner that does not provoke the country's authorities.
