Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has unveiled a plan to allocate additional funds of around 100 billion yen (about 665 million U.S. dollars) to accelerate reconstruction in the quake-hit Noto region in central Japan, according to Xinhua.

The government will decide the additional spending to finance the expansion of the subsidy program as early as next week, based on this fiscal year's reserve fund, Kishida told reporters during his visit on Saturday to areas devastated by the Noto Peninsula earthquake on New Year's Day.

Part of the additional spending will cover people of the working generation with subsidies of up to 3 million yen to help rebuild their homes damaged in the magnitude-7.6 quake that hit Ishikawa Prefecture.
