Cargo of explosives heading from Odessa to Voronezh detained in Georgia

Georgian intelligence services prevented an attempt to transport a cargo of explosives from Odessa to Voronezh; seven citizens of Georgia, three citizens of Ukraine and two citizens of Armenia are suspected of the crime, Report informs referring to Georgian media.

Six explosive devices were brought into Georgia in a minivan of a Ukrainian citizen from Odessa through Romania, Bulgaria and Türkiye on January 19, 2024 in batteries from electric vehicles and planned to deliver them to Voronezh through the Daryal checkpoint.

Three explosive devices that were attempted to be smuggled in a transit container were seized at the checkpoint on the Georgian side. The State Security Service of Georgia established that the organizer was a native of the city of Batumi, a candidate for deputy from the Servant of the People party, Andrei Sharashidze.

The criminal case is being conducted under the article illegal storage and acquisition of explosive devices and explosives, but the State Security Service does not rule out reclassifying the case as preparation of a terror attack.
