The Bulgarian military research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) has dropped anchor in the western bay of Half Moon Island in Antarctica, reported Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
Geologist Kalin Naydenov and mountaineers Doychin Boyanov and Kiril Doskov were able, with the help of the crew, to survey possible sites for work. Then they moored at the easternmost point of Livingston Island, where they acquired geological samples.
Prof. Eliza Uzunova sampled the area around Half Moon Island for the presence of microplastics.
Assoc. Prof. Lyubomir Kenderov and Assoc. Prof. Raina Hristova, who managed to take samples from the bottom of the bay with a special tube, continued work on their projects on board the RSV 421.
