France eyes cutting dependence on non-renewables to 40%

France intends to reduce its dependence on non-renewable energy sources from 60% to 40% in the next decade, said Minister of Energy Transition of the Republic, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Report informs referring to TASS.

“We need to reduce France’s dependence on fossil fuels, which are used to produce 60% of our electricity... I want to reduce this figure to 40% by 2035,” she noted.

According to the minister, the authorities intend to develop nuclear energy in the country. In addition to the previously announced construction of six nuclear reactors, the minister spoke about plans to create eight more after 2026.
