Brenda Wanabe: New Caledonia still experiencing negative consequences of French colonialism

New Caledonia is still experiencing the negative consequences of French colonial policy, representative of New Caledonia, President of EDIPOP Popular Editions Brenda Hanthipe Wanabe said at the event “Decolonization Dialogues: Legacy, Challenges, and Progress” in Baku, Report informs.

She emphasized the importance of recognizing the rights of the Kanak people, as well as the victims of France’s colonial policies. She also called for an intensification of the struggle for the independence of New Caledonia.

She noted that abandoning French products could be one alternative solution: “French companies are active in New Caledonia, which is also an example of the continuation of their colonial policies. Local production should be encouraged in New Caledonia.”
