The strategic partnership between Georgia and the United Kingdom was discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Leo Docherty, the British Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Europe, according to Agenda.ge.

The officials reviewed prospects of strengthening cooperation in “various fields”, the Government Administration said.

The meeting noted the importance of the Wardrop Strategic Dialogue format, which covers cooperation between the two countries, and ways of further strengthening it.

The discussion also reviewed the positive recommendation of the European Commission on Georgia’s EU membership candidate status.

The meeting also focused on the situation and challenges in the wider region and the world, and highlighted the “positive” role that Georgia can play in “achieving security and stability in the South Caucasus”.

Garibashvili expressed his Government’s “readiness” to “continue contributing” to peace and stability in the region.

The PM also informed the visiting official about ongoing and implemented reforms and thanked the UK Government for its contribution to the strengthening of Georgia’s state institutions and the country's democratic development.

Garibashvili also focused on the security and humanitarian situation in the country’s Russian-occupied territories and thanked Docherty for his “unwavering” support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
